Nessa palestra vou comentar mais sobre esse novo conceito no desenvolvimento web, mostrar as diferenças do desenvolvimento web, o que o desenvolvedor precisa aprender ou reforçar o seu conhecimento para atender essa nova demanda que surge no mercado, que é soluções acessíveis por dispositivos móveis.

I have found a nice article on Imasters Imasters (in Portuguese), written by Rodrigo Diniz Rosa which lists some Joomla extensions which allow us to adapt Joomla to mobile devices. The list:

J Admin Mobile iPhone Plugin

This simple plugin allows us to View, Edit, Add, Articles, Sections, Categories, Users, Menus and Menu Items become aligned on the IPhone screen. The installation process is simple, you only have to upload the plugin, as usual, enable the extension and you’re set. The layout remains the same, the only difference is that the functions listed above are displayed correctly on the device’s screen.

WAFL: Mobile Content Adaptation

This solution has a Component, a Module and a Plugin. When WAFL is installed it starts to identify the user’s browser and load a compiled version in case the device is mobile. Once configured you can select three compilation modes:

• Template: after the browser is identified it loads a specific template for mobile devices.
• Redirection: the user is redirected to an adapted page.
• Siruna: the user is redirected to an address adapted by the Siruna platform. It adapts the site as whole and works for many mobile devices.

Despite the great usefulness of WAFL, which I use in some projects, the project is still in alpha state. The only problems I have had with it concern the definition of classes when some module or plugin is loaded. However, it was quite easy to fix these problems.

JoomlaDo Member RSS Syndicator

JoomlaDo is a simpler option. By using it your site becames availabe a RSS news channel when accessed by a mobile device.

For those whose search a Joomla version for PDAs, you’d better take a look at mobiFORGE. Denis Ryabov describes the whole Joomla installation process and the customization of the PDA Mambot’s classes and variables.
